All six allegations against President Paksas endorsed by special commission

The special commission formed to investigate the possible impeachment of President Rolandas Paksas has endorsed all six allegations made against the president, the daily Lietuvos rytas reported on Thursday, February 19th.

Commission Deputy Chairman Julius Sabatauskas rejected claims by the president's lawyers that they were entitled to attend the meeting.

The charges are that the president violated the constitution and his presidential oath; failed to ensure the protection of classified information; attempted illegally to influence the activities of private companies; was unable to reconcile public and private interests; hindered the functioning of state institutions, discrediting their authority; and failed to take measures to stop his advisers from abusing their official powers.

The commission is expected to present its formal charges on Friday, February 20th.
