Vaclav Klaus was elected president of the CR.

In the third round of the third presidential election, Klaus gained 142 votes from MPs and Senators, a mere one more than the minimum required.

Government coalition candidate Jan Sokol received 124 votes.

Klaus will officially take up the post after being sworn in by parliament on March 7.
