Senate passes EU referendum bill

The Senate yesterday unanimously approved its own proposal for a constitutional law on a referendum on Czech entry to the EU.

The bill, which has yet to be approved by the Lower House, proposes that the referendum take place within 30 days of signature of the law by the President.

The Senate rejected a government civil referendum bill, which proposed giving citizens an opportunity to offer opinions on “fundamental questions of internal or foreign state policy“.
